Who’s Who – on the Church Council?

Roy Newton

Roy Newton

Elder

I was brought up by parents and grandparents in the Methodist tradition and attended a Methodist Sunday School. I married and had two children.

On retirement from the Coal Industry, I retired to Spain and helped in the formation of TCF.

I was baptised by immersion and served as Secretary and Council Member and became an Elder on Sunday 13th July 2014.

Treasurer

I thank God that I was brought up by Christian parents who always strictly followed Biblical teaching and I have never wandered far from what I was taught.

I have served my Heavenly Father for nearly 30 years being the Treasurer at various churches during my Christian walk and have always experienced the rich and abundant blessings of Father God in both my own personal life and with the handling of His finances.

I come from a non-Christian family and went to Girls Brigade as a child.  We were encouraged to attend church parade and the older I grew the more I went to church.  I felt comfortable there and at the age of 14 years I was baptised by full immersion.  This was the start of my journey to faith.

When I left school and went to work, Church fell by the wayside, but I always knew that God was with me.

When my daughter went into Brownies I ended up helping and eventually was asked to go into uniform.  It was at this point that God spoke to me!  “Can you really promise to do your duty to God?” was the voice I heard in my head. My journey of faith has never looked back………

In my very early years (4 years old or so) I grew up with my grandmother as my parents emmigrated to the UK. My grandmother was a very strong Christian woman and discipline was equally ensured. All the grandchildren were grounded in the Christian way of life. Some years later she took ill and was unable to care for us, so my brother and I were now living with an uncle who was a Pastor.

When I was 14 we joined our parents in the UK. Our mother did not attend church but ensured we went. No matter what I did, there was always a consciousness of God’s Presence and fear of Him.

I have always felt God’s calling in my life, in my work and social life. I surrendered to God at one of our Boys Brigade camping holidays age 18 and was baptised in 1971. I have served in the Church in many different capacities. Along with my Wife Winnie of 40 years we have been at TCF since 2007 and in full membership since 2012. My heart is to serve and to be a fruitful seed in Gods building plan here at TCF.

I gave my life to Jesus at the age of 13 through a children’s club in a Baptist Church I attended from the age of 11. I have served in various churches over the years, mainly in children’s work and homegroups.

Through coming closer to Jesus my prayer life developed, and God has graciously used me in various ways by giving me a great desire to pray for other people. My one desire is to come closer to my precious Lord and Saviour, who has also given me a wonderful freedom to praise and worship Him.

I never went to Church until I was in my thirties, although I used to help occasionally with the Boys Brigade. But at the age of 38 I gave my life to the Lord and was baptised on February 29th, 1976.

Since then I became an officer in the Boys Brigade, I have served as a Deacon in my last Church and served on the Church Council at TCF. I have considered it a great privilege to be able to do this work for my God.

I grew up in Liverpool in a very happy household. I attended Sunday school and have always believed.

Years went by and a family crisis saw me sharing with a Christian workmate. I started attending his evangelical church and was baptised in 1991. God has been by my side ever since.

I was led to TCF about 17 years ago. In that time, I have served the church and more importantly the Lord, cleaning and volunteering wherever needed in the church.

I was born into a Christian family, the fourth of eight children. We all went to Sunday School and I was nine years old when I told my Mum that I had asked Jesus into my heart. She made me wait until I was eleven before being baptised in water as she needed to see in my character that my conversion was real.

We worshipped at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church on East Hill in Dartford, Kent which is where I met Brian in the youth meetings, the man who was destined to be my husband. We married there in 1961 and had three children. I was missionary secretary at the church in Dartford and helped in Sunday school too.

After 26 years in Kent we moved to Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire where I worshipped at the full Gospel Church in Rushden and served as Treasurer for 13 years. I didn’t want to move to Spain when Brian suggested it but it was Gods will as since we came in Jan 2003, Brian met and made friends with some of my Christian friends and before he died in 2013 he had made the right decision too.

God has always been part of my life which he has saved, literally, more than once. My desire for the time I have left on this earth is to serve Him.

I grew up in a family that converted to Roman Catholicism when I was young when I first developed a relationship with Jesus. There were several things I found difficult with this religion and followed my own ways and set my own priorities.

However, there were occasions when I turned to Christ and He has always been faithful to help in whatever jam I got into and in His mercy and forgiveness He has always directed me to His path and His ways.

I am happily married and have two sons, a second wife with three children and many grandchildren as well as great grandchildren!
